The gameplay is top notch and way fun, even without MGS history, but if you don't like third-person shooters or if you don't like a shooter that rewards you for being slow, deliberate, and sneaky, then I would think that the steep price range of the system might not make it worth it. If, on the other hand, you do like third person shooters (although you can technically turn this into a first person shooter) and you don't mind a game whose story is a little on the strange side, you will like this game and if you're in the market for a PS3, it's as good a purchase as ever, especially now that the system has mostly figured itself out. Sorry if that's a bit of a cop out answer, but the system is just too expensive for me to casually recommend a purchase. It may be my favorite, but I wouldn't want someone to go down that considerably expensive road (games are typically $10 more expensive and a lot of these new system purchases (except for the Wii) will lead to HDTV purchases...) and not enjoy it.
