They don't remake the continuity, the events in other Persona games happened, but they happened in other places. The Dan Mesa from P3 SPOILERS dies and is not the same Dan Mesa as P4, I just named him that way.

The high school kids aren't exactly tasked with this, they mostly fall into it, but you get the general idea. Persona is a SMT spinoff that focuses on high school students and, while it's generally pretty bleak, it's a hell of a lot less bleak than nuclear holocaust and killing Yahweh.

I would say that it perhaps falls into the normal adventurer archetype in that most of them were adolescents in the past.

I'm liking the plugin so far.

So the Persona series is about an alternate universe where High School students have to do this type of stuff. Or maybe it's like tenchi and they just keep remaking the continuity.

Of course, I called Buffy/Persona a jungian archetype facetiously, but perhaps only if you narrowly constrict it to High School. Maybe there was an analog in ancient times of some crime fighting guy who also had to till the fields for his Roman master. Or perhaps I'm full of crap. At any rate, it appears to be a new archetype if it didn't exist before. Although they would blow my "there's nothing new" outlook totally out of the water.

The related posts at the bottom of each post is really the most important part for getting readers more immersed into your blog. Most people ignore the stuff on the left and right unless they are specifically looking for something. I know I usually do as the stuff in the sidebars are either navigational (and I already found the post I want) or advertising (and I usually don't care). With a little theme editing, you could probably get rid of the useless one. But what the plugin really did that is useful is add in the related posts to your RSS feed.

It's certainly less emo than Persona 3, but these kids are in high school, so there are definitely some emo scenes (with emo music to go with them). Continuity-wise, it's not really necessary to have played P3. You visit the high school and town from that game, but the story isn't directly related. There are some common threads, but nothing concrete that I've noticed. Perhaps the hardcore have spotted the really obscure, important canonical stuff, but I don't know any of it.

I've never seen Buffy, so I can't really compare, but I don't know if I'd say it was quite like that.

I'm not sure I'd call high school stories like this and Buffy Jungian, since high school hasn't existed for all time, but there are definitely some deep-seated human qualities to the story that are common across almost all cultures. You almost make that point too with the moving out to the country thing. It's a universal feeling.

The related posts thing is nice, but my theme already had something that did it (and poorly) so now I have two related posts headings with only one that does anything.

Awesome post. Love all the back ground info. The game sounds a bit emo from your last paragraph.

I'm curious - is Persona 4 a continuation of P3? Or are you a completely different person? Interestingly, the plot sounds like a Japan version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After all, she is also a high school student trying to have friends, good grades, and a love life. On top of that she also has to battle demons and vampires. I don't know which came first or if this is just a version of a Jungian story that every culture inevitably has.

I think it's interesting how the characters tell you that it will suck going to school in the country. That would also happen in the USA. In fact, I can almost picture a movie where that happens, but I can't put my finger on the exact movie. There are probably at least half a dozen with that plot.

As a final, and unrelated point, the related posts plugin seems to be working very, very well. Hope it helps lead new readers to some of your previous articles.
